Ruzawi School

The Indigo Room

Curriculum support
Curriculum support is designed to help pupils who require remedial help in one or more subjects. Currently, pupils come to the room for spelling, English and/or mathematics. The classes are small and basic concepts are taught and then built upon. Multi-sensory techniques are used to get concepts across and a variety of methods have been incorporated. All pupils learn in different ways so it is extremely important to teach every concept in many ways and most importantly to make it fun!

Curriculum support is certainly not isolated and a multidisciplinary team must always work closely together on the individual goals of the pupil. Educational psychologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists, occupational therapists and speech therapists to name a few will be working closely with the teacher and me in finding the best possible ways to achieve the pupil’s goals.

In deciding the name for curriculum support, we had many ideas. We wanted a name that was fun and did not label the pupils in any way. The Indigo Room was chosen as indigo is the colour of intuition and perception and it is a powerful and dignified colour that promotes concentration, conveys integrity and deep sincerity. The colour reflects great devotion, wisdom and justice along with fairness and impartiality. All of the above is exactly what we would like the curriculum support at Ruzawi to be and represent so we felt it was a fitting name.
