22 May 2017

Dear Parents,

The Winter Term is well underway and already our Grade 6 year group have returned from a school trip to Matopos in Matabeleland and will no doubt regale their families with all the incredible adventures enjoyed during their week away. These trips will remain in the memories of our children well beyond their school days and form a tremendous part of their development into well-rounded characters. Sincere thanks to all those involved who make a huge effort to maintain these enjoyable activities for the benefit of our children.

For those of you who made it out to Peterhouse for the Jenny Calderwood memorial Kidzcan run/walk on 14 May I’m sure you’ll agree it was a great day out! The weather was beautiful, fantastic support from toddlers to teens to Grandparents. This group of Ruzawi children must have sprinted the course as they came in puffing and panting but so chuffed with themselves that I couldn’t resist taking a few photos of them….well done!

Let’s see your best “Dab”

Ruzawi Parents’ Association Committee

The Ruzawi PA seeks to improve communication between the school and the parents. Our next committee meeting will be held on Thursday 15 June so if there are any issues, concerns or points you would like to make us aware of please contact your relevant class rep. We request that more meaningful issues are recorded in writing to the relevant Grade Representative. Please ensure that I am copied into the email so as to be kept up to speed with any matters arising.

Parent Social evenings

Grade 3 reps, Lauren and Angie, did a fantastic job arranging their parent social evening of the year for Grade 3 parents at The Jam Tree in March. The event was well attended – thank you to all of you who came and enjoyed and got to know one another a bit better.

The Grade 4 parents’ social evening will be taking place this term, details will be sent out at a later date. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible as it is great to mingle with one another in a relaxed atmosphere.

Mum’s mail

You are welcome to drop a note to your child via ‘Mum’s mail’ on a Monday morning when you bring your sons and daughters to school. The mail box is positioned in the schools main entrance by the signing in files. For those of you who use the bus for transport there are big bright red post boxes on the bus for you to pop a note/card/pictures/letter in which will be given to your child on Wednesdays.

Dates to diarise

  • Thursday 25 May – Africa Day matches vs Lilfordia for grades 3 to 7 at Lilfordia

  • Monday 5 June – RuzChats in Marondera, notice will sent out in due course with details of who will be speaking to us and the topic.

  • Tuesday 27 June - Polar bear day!  Brrrrrr……. a reminder about getting your swimming cozzies out and joining the children for a dip in the pool followed by a welcome cup of tea and delicious Ruzawi snacks. If you’d rather not do a length please feel free to come and spectate.

On a lighter note a friend sent me this which I’d like to share with all you mums out there -

How To Be A Mum in 2017:

Make sure your children’s academic, emotional, psychological, mental, spiritual, physical, nutritional and social needs are met while being careful not to over stimulate, under stimulate, improperly medicate, helicopter, or neglect them in a screen-free, processed foods-free, GMO-free, negative energy-free, plastic-free, body positive, socially conscious, egalitarian but also authoritative, nurturing but fostering of independence, gentle but not overly permissive, pesticide-free two-story, multilingual home preferably in a cul-de-sac with a backyard and 1.5 siblings spaced at least two years apart for proper development and also don’t forget the coconut oil.

How To Be A Mum in Literally Every Generation Before Ours:

Feed them sometimes!

A reminder to the Kipper parents that there is an informal ‘catch-up’ at Ruzawi on Wednesday 24 May at 1400 to address any areas of concern and provide additional information where required. Those children whose parents who are unable to attend the meeting the bus will depart for Harare at 1400 to arrive at Cresta Lodge between 1500 and 1530.

For the rest of the parents I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Lilfordia for our annual “Africa Day” matches on Thursday 25 May.

Kind regards,

Louise Arnold

(Chairperson)

Lastly here is a sweet picture of some our Ruzawi girls taken last Monday ...morning.
